Fukushima is the capital of the Fukushima prefecture in central-northern Japan. It is surrounded by the Ou Mountains and the Abukuma River.

The city was founded in ancient times as Minekoshi, around 3000 BC.

Many areas of the city were damaged or destroyed by a disastrous nuclear power plant explosion in 2011, and the city was evacuated. Today, Fukushima is bravely recovering and rebuilding.

It is known for its resiliance to disaster, for being the site of the only horse racing track in Japan, and its modern architecture and city layout.
