Fort Irwin is a military town and location of Fort Irwin National Training Center, located in the Mojave Desert in southern California.

The first European in the area was a priest in 1796, and Jedidiah Smith explored the land in 1826. Actual settlement began in 1844.

Today, Fort Irwin is exclusively reserved for military personnel, and 9,000 people live and work inside. The town is well known within the military for its realistic war scenarios, even having a complete reconstruction of an Arab town, with "townspeople" dressed as Middle Eastern locals inside.
