Esslingen am Neckar is a large town in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in southwestern Germany. It is located on the Neckar River, 9 miles southeast of Stuttgart

The area has been settled since about 1000 BC. It became a Roman settlement in the 1st Century AD, and was first mentioned in history in 777 as "Ezelinga."
