Elizabeth Berkley is an American actress. She is best known for her role on the TV series Saved by the Bell, which aired from 1989 - 1993.

Berkley's first audition was for the 1982 film Annie, though she was turned down. The role was given instead to Aileen Quinn.
When she first auditioned for the show Saved by the Bell, Berkley and Tiffani Thiessen were competing for the same role. However, the creators of the show liked both actresses so much, they decided to cast both of them, and invented another character for Berkley to play. Berkley and Thiessen worked closely together on the show for four years, and remain very close friends.
Berkley briefly dated Paul Verhoeven, her director on Showgirls, in 1994.
Berkley won the role in the 1995 movie Showgirls over Charlize Theron, who was considered too unknown at the time to cast. However, the film was a disastrous flop, and has been credited with ruining Berkley's career.
Berkley worked with Madonna as her body double on the film The Real Blonde in 1997.
Berkley married Greg Lauren in 2003.
Through her marriage, Berkley is the step-niece of Ralph Lauren.
Berkley is a close friend of Jennifer Beals.
In 2000, it was alleged that Leonardo DiCaprio had encouraged his friends to assault Berkley, after she made it clear that she was not interested in DiCaprio or his friends' advances. Allegedly, this resulted in a street fight with another man attempting to defend Berkley. It was later the subject of a law suit.
