Dunkirk in People's Lives

James II of England: Shortly after joining the Spanish army, I fought in the Battle of the Dunes here in 1658 under Louis, Grand Conde. I had recently been expelled from the French army, which I had served in gallantly for years, and now fought against my former comrades. I made several charges, which I myself was at the head of, and fought bravely, but the French won the battle.

Victoria, Queen of England: When Albert and I visited our ally and friend Napoleon III in 1855, he met us here and accompanied us to Paris.
