Dalkeith is a town in the area of Midlothian in southern Scotland, located on the River Esk. The town originally began as the site of Dalkeith Castle and its surrounding lands, built in the 12th Century.

Today, the town is best known for its well-preserved castle.

Dalkeith in People's Lives

Thomas Boleyn, 1st Earl of Wiltshire: I stayed here at Dalkeith Castle in 1503, while escorting Margaret Tudor to Scotland following her marriage. After staying a few days to see her meet her new husband James IV of Scotland and settling into her Scottish life, I returned to England, my first important diplomatic mission complete.
