Haymarket Historic District
Council Bluffs is a town in western Iowa, directly across the Missouri River from Omaha, Nebraska.

The Lewis & Clark Expedition passed through here in 1804, and was settled in 1838 as a mission town for the local Native American Indians.

Today, Council Bluffs is known for its historic downtown area, historic mansions, and as the starting point of the Mormon Trail.

Viggo Mortensen: I traveled here in 1990, to film scenes of The Indian Runner, playing a troubled veteran. Funnily enough, I had just finished filming another film in which I played another troubled war veteran.
