Coquitlam is a city in the province of British Columbia in southwestern Canada. It is the 6th largest city in its province, and is located at the connection between the Coquitlam and Fraser Rivers, approximately 8 miles east of Vancouver.

It was originally inhabited by the Salish Native Americans, who had lived in the territory for at least 9,000 years. The first European contact was by explorer Simon Fraser in 1808, and a town was established in 1860's. The town experienced a boom in economy in 1889, when a profitable mill was constructed.

Today, Coquitlam is known for its natural scenery, surrounding mountains and rivers, lake, proximity to Vancouver, luxurious "woodsy" homes, and agriculture.
