Chester is a small city in the Cheshire region of England, located on the River Dee and close to the Welsh border.

It was founded as a Roman fort in 79 A.D. under the name of Deva Victrix.

William the Conqueror: After my successful Norman Conquest, this was one of the last cities to still refuse to acknowledge my reign as the new King of England. I came here with an army behind me, but no battle commenced. I ordered Chester Castle built here in 1070, which fortified the area as mine, and acted as a stronghold against the nearby Welsh border.
