Historic Court Square
Charlottesville is a town in north-central Virginia, about 70 miles from Richmond. A university town, it is the location of the prestigious University of Virginia.

Originally, the land was inhabited by the Monacan Native American Indians. It was established in 1762, and named in honor of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. 

Today, Charlottesville is known for its university, colonial history, ties to Thomas Jefferson and the location of his home Monticello, architecture, intellectual and multi-cultural feel, Southern cuisine, bookshops, coffee, and indie culture.

Jorge Luis Borges: I was often here in 1967, or rather, at the University of Virginia. The campus was greatly impacted by me, and I became all the rage within the prestigious school. I was so influential that in later years, one of those students would begin the Borges Collection at UVA, one of the largest collection of works and documents pertaining to me.
