Caserta is a town in the region of Campania in southern Italy, at the foot of the Campanian Subapennine Mountains. It is best known as the location of the Palace of Caserta.
The town was established around 500 AD, though the original settlement was destroyed in 863, with a new city built on top of it. The famous palace located here was built in 1752 for Charles III of Spain.
Today, Caserta is best known for its luxurious palace, the palace grounds and gardens, and for its history and lovely downtown area.

Keira Knightley: I traveled here in 1998 to film scenes of the movie Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. I looked so alike to Natalie Portman, whose decoy I was playing in the movie, that our own mothers had trouble telling us apart when we were in costume.
