Camden is a town in South Carolina. It was founded in 1730, making it the 4th oldest settlement in the state.
Camden is best known for its numerous steeplechase events, despite state law prohibiting any gambling on horse racing. It is sometimes nicknamed "Steeplechase Capitol of the World."

Charles Armand Tuffin de la Rouërie: I fought here for the Americans in the Revolutionary War Battle of Camden, in 1777. I commanded the cavalry, but despite fighting valiantly, the battle was poorly planned, and we were defeated. I later criticized and challenged General Horatio Gates' execution of this battle.
