Bristol in People's Lives
Martin Pring: I was born here in 1580, and grew up in the city. Though my family status and upbringing are largely unknown, what is known is that even from childhood, I had a strong sense for the sea, just as this city does. I eagerly learning about ships and sailing, and began working on ships from an early age. I found favor in the maritime industry within Bristol, and my patrons included the mayor, alderman, and a handful of merchants that traded in and out of the port. At the age of 23, in 1603, I was captain of a ship scheduled for an exploration voyage of the Northern Americas. I died here in 1626.
Olivia Hallinan: I was frequently here through 2008 - 2010, filming the TV series Lark Rise to Candleford.
