Bodrum is a city port in the Mugla Province of Turkey, in the southwestern region of the country. In ancient times, it was the location of Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The city is at the entry point of the Gulf of Gokova. Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 1400's, overlooks the harbor.
Herodotus: I was born here in 484 BC, when this city was known as Halicarnassus, in Persian Anatolia. Though little is known about my parents, it is known that I was somehow related to a popular epic poet of the time. It is unknown how long I lived here.
