Blaenau Ffestiniog is a town in the county of Gwynedd in northern Wales. Though inhabited by under 5,000 people, it is the third largest town in Gwynedd.
It was orignally scattered farmland, but after the slate industry took off in 1750, the town became an industrious mining center, and found prosperity through this line of business. The slate industry went into recession in the 1890's, and by 1950, had completely discontinued. As demand for the slate dimished, Blaenau Ffestiniog receded back into its former days of a quiet town nestled in the Welsh countryside.
Today, Blaenau Ffestiniog is best known for its mining history and historic train.
