Bishkek is the capital and largest city of Kyrgzstan, or the Kyrgz Republic. The city is set at an altitude of 2600 feet within the Alt-Too mountain range.

Though it was originally a small caravan stop of the Silk Road, the city of Bishkek was founded as a mud fortress in 1825, then named "Pishpek."

Today, the city is known for its surrounding mountains, downtown area, and up-and-coming status.
