Birkenhead is a large town in northwestern England. Though it now lies within the county of Merseyside, it historically belonged to the county of Cheshire. It is located on the River Mersey a few miles outside Liverpool, often considered a suburb or commuter town to that city.

It was founded around 1150, when a Benedictine priory was built here.

Today, Birkenhead is known for its lush park adorned with beautiful pavilions and bridges, ship building, seaport, maritime economy, church, and historic buildings.
