Biarritz is a town in southwestern France on the Bay of Biscay.

It was founded around 1170 as a whaling town, which quickly grew to a massive success, and the town remained wealthy off whale hunting until the 20th Century. It enjoyed further affluence when doctors in the 18th Century said that Biarritz's waters had healing properties.

Today, Biarritz is an affluent and thriving town famous for its historic architecture, surfing, for its proximity to the Spanish border, and for its glorious sunsets.
