The land was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Ottawa and Chippewas. In 1833, the land was sold to the Americans by the indians. European settlement began around 1834.
Today, Barrington is known for its expensive and wealthy atmosphere, historic train station and train lines, enormous mansions, shopping, forest preserves, parks, and horseback riding.
