Aschaffenburg is a city in the state of Bavaria in central Germany. The area was settled by Germanic tribes since the Stone Age, and used as a Roman legionary camp. The city's name translates as "castle at the ash tree river."
Today, Aschaffenburg is best known for its Johannisburg Castle, built from 1605 - 1614.
